Ombre! Ombre!

I don’t know about you but I love my lipsticks. I can never get enough of them. It is such an easy way to add variety to your makeup collection. I find that, as a makeup artist trying to keep up with the latest trends, I spend so much money on their purchase alone. While going through my makeup bag one day, I realized that I had five different brands of lipsticks for, almost, the exact same colour. I couldn’t help but be disappointed. I had bought each of them with the same thought in mind which was that each played an important role in my makeup artistry.
This got me thinking. How could I avoid this from recurring, especially since it would be great for my bank account :-p. I started my research and came across ‘Ombre’ Lips.
It could be that you are just tired of using a particular colour of lipstick, the same way, over and over or that you are tired of having that predictable boring look that everyone has gotten used to and now expects. Eek!
Fret no more, this look is for YOU
It is such a fun way to wear lipstick. It can be bold or subtle. The best thing about it is that you control the way you want your lipstick to look. I love it. This is why I want to show you some of my creations using the MAC Cosmetics lipsticks that I got from Room624, at unbelievably affordable prices too. Everybody loves budget friendly quality products.
The first thing to note
Every lady MUST own a lip brush and some statement lip pencils. They are essential makeup tools. Lining the lips help to prevent the lipstick from bleeding out of the lip’s curves and edges. The lip brush blends the liner into the lipstick to prevent harsh lines. They also act as transition colours.
Achieving the ‘Ombre’ lip look
• Apply foundation/concealer in your skin shade all over the lips.(You could use also use a lighter or darker shade if you like)
• Outline the curves and corners of your lips using a lip liner in the same shade as the lipstick to be applied. Using a lip brush, blend out harsh lines.
• Apply the lipstick over the lip liner with the lip brush to intensify the colour. Be careful to create a ‘lip pocket’ in the middle of the lips. (If the lip pocket is too small, you could use a clean lip brush or a small flat concealer brush to reapply the foundation/concealer to increase it)
• Blend, Blend, Blend! away harsh lines so it looks as seamless as possible between both.

Hint: Use a darker shade of lip pencil with at least a two-shade lighter lipstick for a more dramatic look. The idea is to go from darkest to lightest.
You could achieve this look with any lipstick. Here’s another detailed look using MAC Cosmetics Rebel and Up the amp
